Round 2 of 36

Yeah yeah. I know the title is confusing! It's meant to be. The new elimination process was at first quite confusing and even now I don't quite understand why they decided to do it this way. It's a big waste of our time to watch 12 performers and only get to see 3 continue.

Last nights episode. WOW. I was so disappointed with Matt the dualing piano guy. I had high hopes for him. He's got a Justin Timberlake look to him but a beautiful soulful voice. His song choice might have ended it for him.

The chic with the legs is another reason why this years process is silly. Never even heard or saw her before. She was god awful. Why is she even there... TO kill time? to draw out the process? So the show can make more money? Please. Don't waste my time like this. My patience is wearing thin.

I don't remember seeing Kris Allen in the auditions but I was pleasantly surprised with him. His song choice was interesting and somewhat bold (to pick a song that not many people know) and he was kind of adorable and sang it well. Is that enough to be one in three out of twelve? Probably not. Bummer.

Allison. Crazy red hair huge voice. I could see Kelly Clarkson in her. I hope she makes it. She'll keep this season interesting.

Adam Lambert. Yum. I like him and although I don't really dig the actual sound of his voice he's beautiful and got a very unique look and if he went the Punk Rock route I would buy his CD for sure. But, doing a Rolling Stones song the way he did. Risky and slightly awkward to me. BUT, there is no denying he is talented and good looking. If he doesn't make it through tonight. I think he'll come back as a wild card.

Mishovanna. What a name and she's talented but why pick a song like that? We are not quite far enough along in the competition to be picking such bold songs. I mean it should be bold but still make sense and that didn't make much sense. I have a feeling she will make it through, but i wouldn't have voted for her based on that song and performance.

Tomorrow. We'll discuss the elimination. Hmmm.

Eliminations - Week 1

Oh the horror. Brent Keith was eliminated!  I love country music, so when a contestant picks a country song, I get excited. That song did not do him justice! But, he also has (in my opinion) an unfair advantage, being that he's recorded songs for a major motion picture soundtrack (Dale) and had Sessions recorded for CMT. 

I was wondering how this all was going to work with 36 finalists... I can't say that I'm enjoying the new process.  It seems wasteful to get attached to contestants who are very likely to get eliminated. The fact that only 3 make it through each week... wow! Odds are stacked against them. They had to change things to keep it fresh and keep people interested. But, this new system just seems like it's dragging things out. 

Give me the good singers with real potential and few unique contestants to keep it interesting and I'm happy girl. All this BS feels like a waste of my time.  I could honestly care less what the judges think anymore... Simon has got it right 90% of the time. Even if he's harsh - it's the truth.

Hollywood and Plants!

Let me start by apologizing for letting over a week go by with out a post. I got slightly annoyed with the audition episodes. As I have said before I do not enjoy the horrible singers. I also do not enjoy the fluff and back stories that end being a waste of my time. I like to be wow'ed and impressed. That has been my motivation for watching this show from the start.

That said. I am thrilled that the auditions are finally over. I wish I knew why they let so many just OK singers through to Hollywood Week. After last nights episode I was surprised that they only cut 40 or so contestants AND let some of the mediocre singers continue. Should be interesting to see how it goes tonight.

The only real reason I can think of that they have so many JUST OK singers getting through this season is because after nearly 8 years they might be running out of talent?!? I can't imagine that is actually possible... but maybe! Thatleads me to the rumours of planted talent... according to TV guide the following contestants have quite and advantage over the "girls (and boys) next door." Do you think Idol has searched for a few "jems" and put them in to make a more interesting season? I do. I guess we'll see....

- Joanna Pacitti, 24. Hired and fired as Broadway's Annie at 12, 2 record deals, sang on the Legally Blonde and Bratz soundtracks

- Brent Keith Smith, 29. Finalist on CMT's Nashville Star in 2004, got a record deal in 2005 and sung the title track for Dale, a 2007 movie about NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt

- David Osmond, 29. Donny Osmond's nephew. Played the lead in a tour of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat', had record deals with the band Osmond 2ndG

- Michael Castro, 20. His older brother Jason made it to Idol's Top 4 last season

- Emily Wyne-Hughes, 21. Lead singer of Go Betty Go, a popular LA based punk band who had two hit singles before she joined the group

- Adam Lambert, 26. Performed in a national tour of Broadway hit Wicked.
